Goal Time is a family of evidence-based self-determination practices designed for different learners, goals, and settings. Each version adapts the Goal Time approach, previously called the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI), for a specific context while maintaining the core components that support people to set meaningful goals, take action, and build self-determination. Goal Time for Schools

Evidenced-Based Practice

An evidence-based instructional practice that teaches middle and high school students to set goals, make plans, take action, and reflect on their progress. Students can use Goal Time to pursue academic, personal, transition, and postschool goals while building self-determination.

An age-appropriate approach to helping elementary students begin building self-determination through goal setting and problem solving. Students learn to identify goals that matter to them, take action, and reflect on what they are learning along the way.

Designed for college students to use self-determined learning to pursue goals that matter to them in college and beyond. Students set goals, develop and carry out plans, monitor their progress, and adjust their approach as they build skills for greater independence and self-direction.

A mobile, self-guided way to put self-determined goal setting into action. Online users choose a goal, create a plan, track their progress, and reflect on what they learn as they work through the Goal Setting Challenge App.

Goal Time for Careers

Evidenced-Based Practice

Supports people to set and pursue meaningful goals at every stage of employment—from finding the right job to succeeding and growing in the workplace. Goal Time helps learners build self-determination as they take greater ownership of their employment and career goals.

Brings self-determined learning to the professional goals of educators and other professionals. Participants identify goals that matter to their own practice, develop and carry out plans for improvement, and use reflection and progress monitoring to guide their professional learning.

Goal Time for Community

Evidenced-Based Practice

A peer-led approach designed for adults with disabilities in community settings. Trained facilitators with disabilities support other adults with disabilities to set and pursue personally meaningful goals, putting self-determination into practice through shared experience and peer support.
