This map shows the global translations of self-determination materials. All translations are conducted in coordination with KU Center on Disabilities and validated for local contexts. Hover over the map to see which languages and materials have been translated.

At KUCD, we are committed to making self-determination assessments and interventions accessible to diverse linguistic and cultural communities worldwide. Our materials have been translated, validated, and adapted in multiple countries to ensure their relevance and effectiveness across different education and community contexts.

We recognize and appreciate the collaborative efforts of researchers, educators, and practitioners worldwide who have contributed to translating, validating, and adapting these materials. Their work has been instrumental in ensuring the accessibility and effectiveness of self-determination assessments and interventions across different languages and cultural contexts.

To ensure the rigor and quality of the translation process, KUCD follows a structured approach that emphasizes conceptual accuracy, cultural relevance, and validity of the translated materials.

Copyright and Use of Translated Materials

KU Center on Disabilities (KUCD) retains intellectual property rights to the self-determination assessments and interventions developed and validated in American English, including the Self-Determination Inventory (SDI), including the Student Report, Parent/Teacher Report, and Adult Report, as well as the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI), the Self-Determined Career Design Model (SDCDM), the Supported Decision-Making Inventory (SDMI), and their associated materials (e.g., the SDLMI Teacher’s Guide) as well as all translated materials. The official translation, validation, and adaptation of these materials, conducted in partnership between KUCD and a translation team, will include a copyright statement to indicate that products are official translations; ensuring reliability and validity, backed by KUCD. Any unofficial translations, if they exist, are not authorized, and KUCD cannot guarantee the effectiveness of the SDI, SDLMI, or other translated materials.

Therefore, all translated materials must include the official copyright statement and follow the guidelines established for the translation process. Additionally, any translation, adaptation, or dissemination of these materials must adhere to KUCD’s intellectual property policies and maintain the integrity of the original content.
