There are three essential characteristics of self-determined action:

Volitional Action
Making intentional, conscious choices based on one’s preference and interests
Agentic Action
Self-directing and managing actions towards goals
Action-Control Beliefs
Recognizing your own abilities and believing they will help you achieve your goals

Within each characteristic, there are component constructs (e.g. psychological empowerment).

This framework serves as a foundation for our interventions related to self-determination
